Recently, Global Communities has partnered with companies to improve their impact on the communities around them. For example, they have partnered with John Deere to be a power for good and expand its global impact on economic development, education, community development and civic engagement.
Sowing Futures, Brazil – Both John Deere and Global Communities value building a community’s capacity to mobilize and empower themselves to lay the foundation for their future. This shared-value is demonstrated in the Sowing Futures program, which is empowering local residents in Horizontina to improve their socio-economic conditions and community infrastructures. The program builds the capacity of community leaders, specifically at-risk youth, through leadership and vocational training. Sowing Futures promotes development and empowers residents to increase youth community and civic participation while preparing youth to enter and thrive in the workplace. The result is a support network for the most at-risk youth. Sowing Futures involves John Deere volunteers in both planning and implementation and plans to strengthen and replicate the program model in other communities.
New Horizons, India – Global Communities partnered with John Deere to develop a structured employee volunteer program for John Deere India’s employees. Global Communities staff and over 300 John Deere India employees worked alongside local non-profit partners to help address community needs in and around Pune. Volunteers cleaned up a public park, constructed a walking track and children’s play area, and planted “kitchen gardens” with vegetables, fruits, and herbs for rural residents. They also improved local school grounds by installing compost pits and toilets, weeding and painting.
Global Communities’ partnership with John Deere has improved the livelihoods of vulnerable residents living in urban and peri- urban communities in India, Brazil, and the United States. The partnership is committed to empowering communities where John Deere operates.
