Douglas Kerr has spent many years overseeing business development initiatives. Originally from the United Kingdom, he has lived in Estonia, Poland, Bangladesh, Trinidad and Tobago, as well as the United States and Canada. While in Bangladesh, he worked on Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives and created public private partnerships with Standard Chartered Bank, Chevron, Unilever, Reckitt Benkiser (manufacturer of Dettol and other hygiene products), The Children’s Television Workshop (producers of Sesame Street), and Banglalink, the largest cell phone network in the country.
In Trinidad and Tobago (TNT), Mr. Kerr authored the UNDP’s five-year strategy, which focused on working with the GoTT to deploy significant oil and gas sector resources sustainably, and underpin TNT’s progress towards middle income status, and to cement TNT’s status as the Caribbean regional leader in trade, tourism and commercial shipping.
Mr. Kerr moved to Washington, D.C., to accept a business development position with a large German-owned international development firm.
In Estonia and Poland, Mr. Kerr worked on issues concerning Eastern and Central European economic growth and EU accession. Working for the Warsaw Stock Exchange, one of Europe’s largest derivatives market, Mr. Kerr helped market the Exchange’s services to large, institutional investors such as pension funds based in the U.S. and UK. Mr. Kerr also wrote pieces for the Warsaw Business Journal.
Mr. Kerr also worked for 4.5 years with VEGA Resource Partner Social Impact (SI) as Vice President for Business Development, where he worked on over 350 proposals and led a 16-member BD team responsible for winning more than $130 million in new business as that small organization rapidly grew and graduated from small business status. SI became the inaugural recipient of USAID’s “Small Business of the Year” award in 2013.
Mr. Kerr brings to VEGA his passion for impactful international development together with his experience in and leadership of new business activities, marketing, communications and external business relations, designed to raise the organization’s visibility through targeted and strategic outreach.
