Michael Deal has led VEGA’s operations since 2010. He has had a widely-varied professional background in international business and development, having served in a number of executive management positions over his career. He was the head of USAID’s Mission in Colombia where he managed an annual program budget of $125 million and oversaw a staff of 80. He also had long-term postings in the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Bolivia, Guatemala and Ecuador. His 28-year Foreign Service career included assignments as Acting Assistant Administrator and Senior Deputy Assistant Administrator of the Latin American Bureau at USAID. Prior to joining VEGA, Mr. Deal was President and CEO of Crown Agents USA, Inc., a UK-based multinational corporation, with annual revenues of over £90m, offices in 100 countries and a staff of 1,350. At Crown Agents, he directed the rapid ramp-up of U.S. operations spearheading the building of a competitive position in the U.S. market, and opening an additional nine overseas offices in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. While at Crown, the firm built new initiatives in customs, tax, and procurement reform, supply chain management, and anti-corruption training.
